I’m Chris, and this is My Theology Corner — accessible theology for every kind of mind. I am a Salvation Army officer (ordained church minister), a father of two, a husband, a theologian, and a lover of all things fantasy and sci-fi. I love to read and write, as I am sure you will find.
My passion and calling are education and formation, supporting people in their development and travelling with them as they deepen their understanding of the world.
I believe that formative and dialogical education is the answer to many of the world’s problems, and I am committed to helping individuals and communities come together to see the Kingdom of God come on Earth.
I’ve got a couple of reflective articles where you can learn more about me:
Theology

The study of theology is all about changing the way we look at things. The process of Christian theological work is reflecting on God’s self-revelation in the world through the person of Jesus and in the texts of the Bible. This is done in light of the historical beliefs and arguments of the Christian Church, and making use of our own reason and imagination. Good theology is undertaken not as abstract theory but in the concrete, lived reality of people and communities. My passion is supporting people in carrying out theological reflection in their own contexts.
Training &Development

The difference between malice and mistake lies in the training of an individual and the development of an organisation. Effective training of individuals, combined with creative, strengths-based development of groups or organisations, can have an impact far beyond the resources invested in them. Not only in relation to the professional practice of those who have been trained, but also in their personal lives. A significant part of my experience is identifying training needs and development opportunities, and implementing solutions to address them.
Innovation

Creative innovation begins by taking what is assumed to be true, identifying what actually isn’t, and then identifying those small nodal points that, when improved, have an exponential effect on the whole complex mechanism. By adopting a change-based culture which refuses to depend on what is known but is open to what is not known, the potential results can far outweigh the initial investment. A key part of my skill set is supporting people and groups in finding innovative and creative solutions to their problems.
